Club Notes 20th September 2020

St. Brigid's GAA Notes week ending September 20th 2020

An incredible weekend for all our adult teams as we brought two county titles home to the parish this weekend. On Sunday, our seniors produced another hugely impressive performance to ensure the Fahey Cup headed back to our club on Sunday evening. Following a tense opening half where we led by a single point at the break, 0-5 to 0-4, our lads found more space in the second half and produced a dominant performance to prevail on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-8. It was yet another display based on skill, style, steel, character and team spirit mixed with experience and youth. A truly magnificent achievement guided by Benny O'Brien and his backroom team. Well done all. St Brigid's: James Martin; Pearse Frost, Darragh Sheehy, Peter Domican; Alan Daly, Ronan Stack, Paul McGrath; Brian Stack (1-0), Eddie Nolan (0-1); Eoin Sheehy, Gearóid Cunniffe (0-1), Rúaidhrí Fallon (0-1); Ben O’Carroll (0-1), Brian Derwin (0-4, 0-1 free), Ciarán Sugrue (0-1). Subs: Donnchadh Gately (0-1) for Eoin Sheehy (48 mins), Robbie Dolan for Gearoid Cunniffe (51 mins), Rúairí Smith for Ben O’Carroll (56 mins), Conor Gleeson (0-1) for Ciarian Sugrue (60mins), Eamon Cunnane for Derwin (65 mins). IFC Ladies: The day before, Saturday, it was another great day for the parish when our Intermediate Ladies produced a powerhouse of a performance against Boyle in Ballyforan to win the County title.. The Ladies controlled the game from start to finish and led by eight points at the break. They kept a stranglehold on the game right until the need to secure victory on a scoreline of 2-9 to 0-8. Well done to the players, manager Tom Lennon and his backroom team. See full match report inside.

JFC A: A good weekend too for our junior mens. On Saturday evening, our junior men's came through a tense championship JFC A quarter-final against Kilglass Gaels where we started well but lost our way during the middle part of the game which Kilglass Gaels controlled. However, in a frantic finish where both sides were neck and neck at 14 points each and facing into extra time, Tom O'Carroll kicked the winner with the last kick of the game to secure a semi-final place against Western Gaels. FT score: St. Brigid's : 2-9 Kilglass Gaels: 1-11. Well done to everyone. See full match report inside.

Minors: We have another county final to look forward to on Saturday evening next when we face Padraig Pearses in the Division 1 Minor decider in Johnstown at 5pm. Very best of luck to the team and management.
