Club Notes 18th July

St. Brigid's GAA Notes week ending, Sunday, July 18th 2021

Sod-turning ceremony: St. Brigid's held a very successful sod-turning ceremony on Friday evening last for our new Development Project. The event marked a very historic day for our club as we now look forward to the start of construction of our new development, the club's largest since the clubhouse complex was built in 1988. The new facilities will comprise a new build featuring a gym and community meeting room while essential upgrades will be carried out to the kitchen, dressing rooms, showers, toilets, roof and car-park. The development will be completed by the end of the year. A sincere thank you to everyone who attended the event, including many project stakeholders, club executive members, club members, players and public representatives. See full report and photos inside.

U15 Boys: Division 3 championship FT St Brigids 7-15 Oran 3-10. St Brigid's got their second win in the U15 Division 3 championship with a win over Oran in Kiltoom last Wednesday evening. It was a game the home side controlled throughout with Tom Warby doing an excellent job man-marking on the highly talented Eoghan Murray. To his credit, Murray showed his class by getting the majority of his side's scores. In the second half, St. Brigid's were able to call on a strong bench which in no way weakened the team with Jimmy Carney helping himself to a couple of excellent scores. St. Brigid's Squad: Jack Tully, Ryan Lawless, Matthew O' Connor, Michael Henehan, Tom Warby, Darragh Glynn-Desmond, Kian Mulligan, Brendan Ferry, Ben Ward, James O'Rourke, James Morris, Roan Trundle, Cathal Ferry, Fionnan Kilcommins, Adam Feeley, Jimmy Carney Jack Lennon, Conor Skene and Charlie O'Carroll.

U16s: St Brigid’s U16 Ladies v Boyle. Last Tuesday evening’s match saw the U16s take on Boyle. We started slow and were soon down by 2 points. The game then changed when Faye Loftus broke down an outward ball and was clean in for a goal. This was the catalyst the girls needed to believe in themselves and play football. Unlike other games where we failed to our chances the girls were hungry and took their scores well. We could mention individual girls for outstanding performances on the day but we can honestly say that it was a fantastic display of honest work rate and teamwork. Boyle had periods of dominance and moved the ball well and took their scores well. It was a great game to watch. Final Score: St Brigid’s 6-14: Boyle 2-8. Next game is away to Padraig Pearses on Tuesday, July 20th. Panel: Jessica Collins, Faye Loftus, Marie Flatley, Jane Hennelly, Aisling Lennon, Lara Deehan, Keeley Sammon, Aoife Walshe, Ciara Fallon, Sally O Hara, Kara Gallager, Rachel Rourke Eabha Brett, Katie Irwin, Amy Hardiman, Mollie McDonnell, Robyn Doyle, Shauna Walshe, Aoife Walshe, Rebecca Keenan, Aoife Minnock , Abbey Higgins and Roisin O Donavan

Junior Ladies :Our Specsavers sponsored Junior Ladies team continued their league campaign with a game against Clann na nGael on Monday evening in Kiltoom. The Clann team brought some very experienced campaigners and on the day they were too strong for the St Brigid’s ladies. The St Brigid’s defence were under pressure for most of the game but they made sure Clann had to work hard for every score and leading by example was Christine O’Malley who rolled back the years with a vintage display. Despite losing the game, the St Brigid’s ladies can take heart from the fight they put in for the 60 minutes and the fact they got the last two scores to end the game on the front foot. Next up for St Brigid’s Junior ladies is round 5 of the league against St Dominic’s.

Senior Ladies: Our Specsavers sponsored St Brigid’s senior ladies finished off the group stages of the league with a win over Shannon Gaels in Kiltoom on Sunday. In an evenly balanced game played under a punishing sun, there was never more than a goal between the teams and at half time St Brigid’s just held the edge 1-8 to 0-8 thanks to a well taken goal from Sarah O’ Rourke. Shannon Gaels came into the game in the third quarter scoring two goals including a penalty which Holly Martin was unfortunate not to save having guessed the right way and getting a hand to the ball. The goals moved them into a one point lead at the final water break where both sets of players were really feeling the heat as the temperature hit the high 20’s. St Brigid’s Ladies are making a habit out of finishing games strongly and this was no exception with them outscoring Shannon Gaels 1-4 to 0-3 in the final quarter. The pick of the scores was a goal of individual brilliance from St Brigid’s Ria Lennon. The final score in Kiltoom was St Brigid’s 3-14, Shannon Gaels 2-14. Next up for the senior ladies is a semi-final next Sunday. The opponent and venue have yet to be confirmed. Team: Holly Martin, Edel Carroll, Aine McGrath, Doireann O Ruairc, Shauna Francis, Katie McDonnell(0-1), Johanna Hughes, Ria Lennon (2-0), Marian Nolan(0-2), Emma Gleeson, Abby Curran(0-1), Sarah O’Rourke(1-0), Ava Shorthall (0-1), Lauren Curran(0-5), Gracie Loftus (0-2).
