U14 Boys

St. Brigid’s: …3-04…… Roscommon Gaels: …1-20

St Brigid’s and Roscommon Gales played an entertaining encounter in the first round of U14 Championship in Kiltoom on Tuesday August 7th. The game was in the balance until the last five minutes when Gaels got a vital goal to seal the victory. This was a much improved performance from Brigids since the last time these sides met in the spring league. The Gaels started strongly scoring the first 5 points, St Brigid’s responded with a point from Luke Whelan after excellent approach play from Eoin Reid, Bobby Nugent and James Dillion. St. Brigid’s added to their tally with Ewan Joyce intercepting excellently before playing the ball forward to Eanna McDonnell who in turn passed to Bobby Nugent who found Eoin Reid in space to produce an excellent point. Roscommon Gaels scored another point before the lads from Kiltoom scored an excellent goal courtesy of James Dillion to lift the home team. The concession of this goal spurred the lads from Roscommon into action and they responded scoring with some excellent points. Just before half time St Brigid’s combined well to score another goal, Ewan Joyce played the ball forward to Robbie Keenan who passed inside to James Dillion who scored his second goal of the game for the home team leaving the half time score 0-11 to 2-02 in an absorbing contest. At the start of the second half the sides traded points with James Dillion scoring for the home side after McDonnell did well in winning possession for his side. Roscommon then added 3 points before St Brigid’s responded with their third goal of the game with ten minutes left in the contest to put four points between the teams. This time Paddy Higgins floated a good ball into the area and Alex O’Donohue rose highest to win possession and put the ball into the back of the net. The next score proved to be the defining score in the game and unfortunately for the home team the Gaels produced a goal with a swift move down the field. Over the last few minutes the lads from Roscommon were to finish the stronger and put a gloss on the scoreline. This was a tough assignment against a very strong Roscommon Gaels side. Best for St Brigid’s were Luke Sylvester, Ewan Joyce and Paddy Higgins who who displayed plenty of skill whilst defending gallantly. Eanna McDonnell & Bobby Nugent who both battled hard throughout and upfront Eoin Reid & James Dillion did well.

U16 Boys

Our lads had two games this week both against our near neighbours Clann. The first was on Tuesday night in the reserve league which was a great open game of football with some fine point scoring from both sides. This was a tight affair the whole way through with us finishing the game with a few good scores to leave it 5/11 to 4/6 to us. Man of the match was Michael Dillon who worked tirelessly.
Our Div 1 lads were out Sunday morning and Clann started the scoring with some fine points. It took time for our lads to settle into the game and were behind at the short whistle 2/3 to 1/9.
In the second half we started to get more ball and we had M.O.M. displays from Ben O Carroll up front and Sean Trundle in defence. We finished the game ahead on a scoreline of 6/9 to 3/11.
The panel of lads involved over the two games were Fergal Cunniffe, Jamie Curley, Shane Daly, Ronan Doyle, Harry Griselain, Liam Hennelly, Shane Keenan, Daniel Meeley, Thomas O Brien, Martin o Grady, James Rourke, Sean Trundle, James Halpin, Michael Dillon, Hughie Cunniffe, Gavin Daly, Ruaidhri Fallon, Conor Hand, Daniel Keenan,Oisin Canny, Brian Monaghan, Ben O Carroll, Brian O Hara Duggan, Ultan O Rourke, Adam Samuels
