U14 Boys

St.Brigids 8-08, Shannon Gael 4-08

Our U14s won the Spring League Div 4 final in fine style on Sunday morning last in glorious sunshine in Kilglass. Playing on a full size pitch for the first time in a 13 a side game, the lads put in a tremendous performance. Despite missing some good scoring chances early in the game, Brigids eased into a commanding lead by half time with scores coming from Billy Ray, Cian and Charlie. Ewan and Robert held sway at midfield for most of the half, and when called upon, Cormac and Niall carried out their defensive duties in brilliant fashion.

Brigids started the 2nd half on the attack again, but some missed chances allowed Shannon Gaels to stay in the game and build some momentum. Gaels then hit a purple patch, and added 2-04 without reply to put the game back in the balance. At this stage the Brigids lads were visibly tiring and the fresh legs of Shannon Gaels subs looked like they would overrun our lads. With no subs to bring on, it looked like it was going to be a real backs to the wall effort for the final 15 minutes. Adam in goal was faced with all sorts of attacks but dealt with everything superbly, and his accurate kick outs always found a colleague to give some relief and set up some speedy counter attacks.

With 13 minutes to go, after some super defending by Roan and Fionnan, a brilliant pass by Noah, found Killian. A superb run by Andrew opened up the defence which allowed Killian to find Charlie with another super pass. Charlie’s effort ended up in the bottom corner of the net, and suddenly our lads found a new lease of life. Further scores followed with some brilliant play from Killian, Ewan, Robert and Andrew to set up Billy Ray and Charlie. Shannon Gaels had no answer to this reply from our lads, but despite this, they fought gallantly to the end.

This was an outstanding performance by all 13 players, and particularly the 6 U-12 lads. The win was a fitting reward to this team who had played solidly throughout the spring league.

Team: Adam Feeley, Cormac Meeley, Roan Trundle, Noah Heavey, Nial Derwin, Fionnan Kilcommons, Ewan Joyce, Robert Keenan, Charlie O’Carroll, Cian Mulligan, Killian Curley, Andrew Sheffield, Billy Ray Dolan.

U16 Boys League

Our U16 lads teams have been busy recently with our Div. 1 team playing Padraig Pearses in Woodmount in the final. The game started fast and Pearses were first out of the blocks.. We trailed in this game from start to finish with Ruairi Fallon and Conor Hand the standout performers for Brigids. Pearses prevailed on a scoreline of 5/10 to 2/14.
Our div 4 team played Western Gaels/Tulsk in the replay last Thursday evening in Oran having drawn with them after coming back from 9 points down. So everyone was looking forward to a great game. Our lads were quick to start and seemed to have purpose to their play. With Hughie Cunniffe opening the score with a fine run and goal the omens looked good. With Fergal Cunniffe and Gavin Daly marshalling defence and James Rourke(2/1) and Daniel Keenan( 0/7) scoring, Western Gaels/Tulsk found a more clincal team in front of them. Man of the match was Kevin Derwin who was outstanding on his kickouts and dealt with anything that came near him comfortably.. We won on a scoreline of 4/11 to !/7. We wish all the lads doing exams the best

OsKars

St. Brigid’s Oskars has come to an end, and although we are a little bit sad it is over, we have had an amazing time and are delighted it was such a huge success. The last weekend has been absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Words cannot begin to describe firstly what a brilliant experience we’ve all had and secondly how grateful St. Brigid’s are to all of our superb actors, actresses, producers and extras who made this event possible. To say we are blown away by the talent in our brilliant parish is an understatement. The support from all of our loyal members, sponsors, supporters and friends has been overwhelming and we are thrilled with the reaction to our Oskars event.
A big massive thank you to everyone that helped out in any way whether it was acting, filming, fundraising, giving up the use of your property etc. Also last but definitely by no means least thanks to everyone that supported us in any way. Without your support this event would not have been anywhere near as successful as it was.
