St. Brigid's GAA Club Notes 23rd June 2013

Anyone wishing to make a contribution to the 5-Year Plan that was unable to attend the workshop may do so via the link on our Website, which will remain in place until the end of June, when the time for submissions will close.   

Congratulations to our Senior Ladies team on winning the County League against Strokestown on Saturday last in Dr. Hyde Park.

Next Wednesday evening 26th June at 7pm, St. Ronan’s AC in conjunction with Athletics Ireland have organised a Fit4Life Leader course in Ballyforan. Its free and the course is intended for people who are interested in getting fitter and perhaps interested in starting a Fit4Life course. St.Ronans AC are hoping to organise a course in the Kiltoom, Drum or the South Roscommon area and this course kickstarts that process. There is no firm commitment from anyone attending the course to be involved in future courses. Paul McNamara will deliver the course, he is a full-time development officer based in Roscommon with Athletics Ireland

Our Junior A team lost out to St. Barry’s by just two points in a tight game of football in Tarmonbarry on Sunday last.

Summer Camps  


First week of summer camps is a multisport camp 1st to 5th July and Cúl camp is 2nd week 8th to 12th July. Another camp is also to be held in August dates to be confirmed.

Senior League Final

St. Brigid’s 2-12, Strokestown 1-9.

Our Hamrock’s of Brideswell sponsored Senior Ladies were successful against old rivals Strokestown in the league final  and the first round of the championship held in the Hyde last Saturday evening. Despite leading 1-9 to three points at half time Strokestown came out fighting in the secong half and managed to decrease the score line to just a six point difference at the final whistle. Two excellently taken Jenny Conlon goals separated the teams in the end.

U12 girls

The Collins Spar and GFS group sponsored St Brigid’s U12 girls defeated Kilbride in the U 12 championship Division 2 Final in Ballyleague on Saturday last the 15th June

In front of a great following the u 12 girls’ showed great determination to get over Kilbride and complete an unbeaten run in the county the final last week. There was some outstanding displays of skill throughout team in a tough battle and we are delighted for the girls to get a reward for their commitment shown during the year thus far. The girls supporting their new kit, where first out of the blocks leading 3-7 to no score at half time.

Training continues for all grades from U8s to Senior. Players will be notified of any changes to normal training times. We are always welcoming new members and parents are especially welcome to get involved. Training schedules or further information on St. Brigids Ladies GAA  or phone 086 0876933.

Training for Senior and Minor Ladies continues on Wednesday evenings and Friday evenings at 8.00 at pitch. Training for U 12 and U 14 girls continues on Tuesday evening at 7:00 at pitch. Training for U8s & U10s continues on Wednesday evening at 7:00 at pitch.  





Gaelic for Mothers and Others  

Any ladies aged over 18 years interested in a bit of light, fun training with a bit of a kick about afterwards, nothing too strenuous, exercise, fun and a laugh. Training continues every Thursday from 7.30-8.30 Come for the craic.

U-14s: A very successful media night for the U-14 Féile squad and sponsors was held last week. The minor committee extends its deep appreciation to sponsors Eamon O’Rourke Fireplaces and Stove and Papa John’s Pizza for their support for the team who are representing Roscommon at Féile this weekend. (See full details elsewhere in the newspaper) On Saturday last, the team had a good work-out against St Lomans last Saturday morning in Kiltoom ahead of the trip to Féile. St Lomans will also be travelling to Féile as Westmeath champions.


U-12s: The U-12s had another busy week last week, starting first with the final game in the Easyfix tournament away to Tuam. The boys finished out on top in both matches on respective scorelines of 4-15 to 2-9 and 5-12 to 3-4. The U-12 squad has now qualified for the Easyfix ‘B’ final, scheduled to take place away to St Gabriels next Saturday, June 29th in Kilconnell. It was also a busy weekend in the Spring League where three U-12 teams lined out on Saturday in separate venues and recorded wins against St Ciarans, Kilbride and Clann na nGael respectively. The final scores are as follows: St Brigid’s 2-15, St Ciarans 1-9; St Brigid’s 6-9, Kilbride 5-7; St Brigid’s 5-15, Clann na nGael 0-9. U-10s: Games are currently being organised for the U-10s and players will be notified in due course. The U-10s will also feature in a County-wide Blitz which takes place at Hyde Park on Saturday next, June 29th. Players will be informed of full details during the week.


U-8s: The U-8s took part in another Football ‘Go Games’ U blitz , which took place last Saturday in Kiltoom. Two St Brigid’s teams took part with each team having matches against Clann na nGael, St Ciarans and St. Domnics. It was obvious to the large crowd in attendance that the lads are growing in confidence on the ball over the last three blitzes and it is great to see the lads trying to emulate their heroes at every opportunity. There were some Frankie Dolan standard passes made and great surging Ronan Stack-type runs carried out,Training continues on Wednesday night at 7pm and an intense session awaits due to the upcoming County blitz in two weeks time , details of which will be released through the managers.
