ST BRIGID'S MINOR COMMITTEE NOTES, WEEK ENDING SUNDAY JULY 21st 2013
U-16s: The rescheduled U16 league game between St. Brigid's and Boyle due to be played on Saturday last was rescheduled again for yesterday evening. (Monday).
U-14s: The U-14s continued their winning ways in the championship with a good victory away to Strokestown on Thursday. In a hard-fought encounter, they eventually got the better of a physically strong Strokestown side and finished the game out on a scoreline of 5-11 to 3-8. Our u-14 team followed on from successes in recent weeks by ensuring their spot in this year’s championship semi-final with a hard fought win against Strokestown on a scoreline of 5-11 to 3-8. Brigid’s started the game really well and opened up an early advantage thanks to goals by Brian Derwin and Seamus Smith. Strokestown fought back however and narrowed the gap to just one at half time. Brigid’s were quick out of the blocks in the second half and goals from Niall Murray, Derwin again and Adam Murtagh put the game beyond doubt. The last game in the group stages takes place this Thursday the 25th July at home against St. Dominics. Squad: Matthew Cochrane, Cian Daly, Gary Daly, Brian Derwin, Eoin Egan, Pearse Frost, Donnachta Gately, Jack Gartland, Tommy Glynn, Mark Haran, John Leonard, Cian McBrearty, Billy McDonnell, Paul McGrath, Liam Martin, Eoin Minagh, Niall Murray, Adam Murtagh, Cathal O'Grady, Ruairi Smith, Seamus Smith, Daniel Sugrue, Ciaran Sugrue, Cathal Sweeney, Tom O’Carroll, Keelan Connor . U-10s: St Brigid’s had a busy week in the Clann na nGael tournament. Their two games away to Ballinasloe on Tuesday last proved to be two very exciting and tight affairs. One game was won by a point and the other lost by a point, with St Brigid’s picking up two points in the process. On Thursday last, the squad picked up all four points on offer against two very game Tubberclair teams. The Andy Merrigan Cup also paid a visit to the host club which proved to be a big attraction for all the parents and kids present.
