U-14s: A media night for the U-14s Féile squad will be held this Tuesday night, June 15th at the club house. The U-14s are representing County Roscommon at Féile Peile na nÓg 2013, which is being hosted in Derry from June 28th-30th. The squad and their families will be hosted by the St Naul's GAA Club in Mountcharles, Co. Donegal. A big thank you also to all those involved who were involved in the successful fundraising initiative for the squad.  On Thursday last in Woodmount against Pádraig Pearses, the U-14s put in a good team performance, working very hard and gaining the lead early in the second half. However with a number of players missing and other players involved in a final the day before, it was an uphill task to hold on to that lead. The players battled to the end but lost out on a final score line of 7-11 to 4-6.

U-12s: St. Brigid’s U-12s recorded two home victories in the Spring League on Saturday last. In the first game, they registered a solid win against Shannon Gaels in a Group C game on a final score line of 3-15 to 3-7. In Group B, the second game played on Saturday was initially a much tighter affair against Eire Og before St Brigid’s found another gear to finish out on a score line of 2-12 to 1-6. U-12 squad: Robbie Dolan, Ciaran Quinn, Eoghan Derwin, Cormac Canny, Luke Grislean, Shane Cunnane, Ruairdhí Fallon, Faolán Kennedy, Darragh Murray, Daniel McDermott, Liam Egan, Evan Gallagher, Shane Kelly, Adam Samuels, Ben O’Carroll, Adam Lennon, Brian Monaghan, Jack Scouler, Seán Trundle, Shane Keenan, Luke O’Rourke, Fergus O’Sullivan, Ultan O’Rourke, Cian Lawless, James Flanagan, Ben Moran, Diarmuid Glynn, Daniel Butler, Michael Butler, Shane Finnerty, Darren Lee, Karl Colgan, Luke Martin, Eoin McGrath, Fergal Cunniffe, Jack Martin, Gavin Daly, Fergus O’Sullivan, Eoghan O’Sullivan, Leo Fenlon.

U-10s: The U-10s took part in their third Football ‘Go Games’ blitz on Saturday last, June 15th, in Knockcroghery at 11 am. St Brigid’s played an excellent series of matches against the host club St Dominics, Clann na nGael and St Ciarans. It was another great run-out for the players who are continue to impress with their skills improvement. U-10 squad: Bryan Armstrong, Oran Benton, Dylan Bolger, Oisín Canny, Jamie Curley, Shane Daly, Ciarán Derwin, Kevin Derwin, David Dolan, Adam Donovan, Ronan Doyle, James Goose, Harry Griselain, Conor Hand, James Halpin, Evan Harte, Liam Hennelly, Paddy Higgins, Daniel Keenan, Fionn McDonnell, Éanna McDonnell, Lorcan McDonnell, Daniel Meeley, Brian Nestor, Bobby Nugent, Shane O'Boyle, Simon O'Boyle, Thomas O'Brien, Martin O'Grady, Eoin Reid, James Rourke, Matthew Samuels, Micheál Sugrue, Sol Trundle, Luke Whelan, Hugh Cunniffe, Jay Beaumont, Daniel Skehan. On Tuesday evening, June 11th, the U-10s played two very competitive challenge games away to Moate. Well done to all the St Brigid’s players whose excellent tackling was a notable feature of the two team performances. We would also like to compliment the excellent refereeing in both games by two young local referees.

U-8s: The U-8s are scheduled to take part in another Football ‘Go Games’ blitz this Saturday last, June 22nd. Players will be notified of full details by their coaches.

Cumann na mBunscol Primary Schools: Roscommon Large Schools Final - Congratulations to the Ballybay Central National School team who were crowned champions when they overcame Creagh last Wednesday evening, June 12th, at  Ballyleague. This was a close game, reflected in the final score line of 4-7 to 3-5. This was a superb victory and while a heavy shower of rain just before throw in made conditions very difficult, Ballybay prevailed by a margin of five points. Ballybay had the worst possible start with Creagh getting the first score of the game when a long ball in somehow ended up in the back of the net. A point soon followed for Creagh but a superbly taken Ciarán Sugrue goal put Ballybay back in the game. Once again though, another long ball in somehow ended up in the Ballybay net.  Another point was to follow. Again Ciarán was on hand to finish what was a superb team goal.  The teams then exchanged some points to leave Ballybay only trailing by a point at half time, 2-3 to 2-2. Ballybay came out with all guns blazing in the second half and within a minute scored a superb team goal. The move started with corner back Gary Daly winning the ball and working the ball all the way up the field with Ian O'Rourke getting the final touch. This was a lead that they were never to lose. Another goal by Liam Martin was to follow, putting Ballybay seven up at that stage. Despite this, Creagh never gave up and were it not for two excellent Eoghan Derwin scores and an excellent clearance off the line by Billy McDonnell, things could have been a lot closer. Despite this, Ballybay were deserving winners and showed some excellent team play and kick passing on what was a difficult day for football. Well done to the whole Ballybay NS squad who ended a four year absence when the school last won the title in 2009. (Report and photographs are on the club website – see elsewhere in the newspaper for further coverage). Ballybay NS squad: Eoghan Derwin, Mark Haran, Gary Daly, Paul Mc Grath, Pearse Frost , Shane Cunnane, Billy McDonnell, Ciarán Sugrue (capt.), Ruairi Smith, Ian O’Rourke, Liam Martin, Jason Deering,  Matthew Cochrane, Cathal O’Grady, Daniel McDermott, Patrick O’Boyle, Jack Gartland, Jack Scouler, Cian Daly. (Photographs of Curraghboy and Brideswell National School teams are also on the club website beside their respective reports).
