U-14s: Hard luck to the D & M O'Grady Builders sponsored U-14 team who were narrowly defeated by Clann na nGael in the Division 1 Championship Final in a thrilling game on Friday last in Ballyforan. Final scoreline: Clann na nGael 4-8, St Brigid’s 4-7. (See full match report in the sports section). It was nip and tuck in the first half with both sides missing a number of kickable scores. With the two teams on 1-3 apiece at the break, the scene was set for an exciting second half and that’s exactly what unfolded. Clann surged six points ahead with two minutes left but St Brigid’s staged an amazing comeback with goals from Brian Derwin(penalty) and Donnchadh Gately. But heartbreak followed straight after when Clann hit 1-1 without reply. Ciaran Sugrue snatched Brigid’s fourth goal but it wasn’t enough as the final whistle sounded. Well done to every player in the squad and the management for putting in a tremendous effort all season. There were some outstanding performances on the night, particularly Gary Daly, who cleared two certain goals off the line, Donnchadh Gately, Brian Derwin, Eoin Egan and Ciaran Sugrue. Big thanks also to the large St Brigid’s crowd that attended the game.
